Grab a tissue, and enjoy this beautiful student film from Ringling College Of Art And Design. The co-directors, Lindsey St.Pierre, Kate Reynolds and Ashley Graham took away a Student Academy Award for Best Animated Short in 2013.
It’s touching, sweet and just a little bit weird. My favorite combination. I love what the message of the movie is, Dia De Los Muertos isn’t a morbid holiday, its a celebration of life and those who we love that have moved on. This is the perfect reminder of that.
Here is the synopsis:
On the Day of the Dead in a small village, bright balloons fly and firecrackers pop. Unfortunately for one little girl, there is only sadness at her recently deceased mother’s grave. But as she wipes away tears, she is suddenly dragged to the land of the dead! Surrounded by partying skeletons and papel picado, she learns that Dìa de los Muertos is not about fear, but about celebrating the end, which in many ways is just the beginning. -Film School Shorts
