We have reached the end of the road for The Walking Dead‘s Andrew Lincoln. Rick Grimes last episode aired this past Sunday. There has been an outpouring of love for Lincoln from the fans, press, and the cast and crew of TWD since the announcement was confirmed.

Rumors began flying around about Lincoln’s departure back in May. Lincoln confirmed at San Diego Comic Con, thanking the fans for their love and support throughout the years. Recently, 23 past and present TWD cast members wrote letters of appreciation for Lincoln. This week they created a video of goodbyes that includes Lauren Cohan, Norman Reedus, and Danai Gurira.  Past cast members Steven Yeun, Michael Cudlitz and the recently passed Scott Wilson are also included.

The Future of Rick Grimes

In the latest episode of TWD, Rick led a herd of walkers to the bridge he and the other communities were building for a trade route. Rick blew up the bridge to get rid of the herd, leading his family to believe he perished in the explosion. Only the audience knows that Rick is alive and being transported somewhere else. Executive Producer Scott Gimple announced on Talking Dead that Lincoln would return for a trilogy of television movies, showing where Rick ended up.

Lincoln has portrayed Rick Grimes for 9 seasons. The cast has always said that the set feels like a family and it sounds like Lincoln has been the glue of that family for some time. Avi Nash who joined the cast last season mentions that Lincoln welcomed him by eating lunch with Nash on his first day. Reedus talks about how Lincoln has made him a better father, actor, and friend. And Cohan states that Lincoln is one of the most kind and generous people to work with.

A new non-Rick Grimes era begins on The Walking Dead on Sunday November 11 on AMC.
