Warner Bros. and Legendary Films announced the release date for the highly anticipated Denis Villeneuve‘s Dune. According to Variety, the reboot will premiere in theaters on November 20, 2020, in 3D and IMAX.
Based on the novel by Frank Herbert, Dune is the story of a battle for power of the one element that controls the entire universe, the Spice. The noble family of House Atreides is sent to the desert planet Arrakis to oversee Spice production. The Emperor Shaddam IV and rival family House Harkonnen betray the Atreides family, destroying their house and leaving them for dead. The surviving son Paul Atreides (Timothee Chalamet) vows to get revenge and begins a journey where no man has dared to go.
The A-List cast includes Chalamet, Rebecca Ferguson, Stellan Skarsgård, Dave Bautista, Charlotte Rampling, Oscar Isaac, and Josh Brolin. Zendaya, Javier Bardem, and Jason Momoa are currently in negotiations to join the cast.
Villeneuve co-wrote the script with Eric Roth and Jon Spaihts . Villeneuve will direct and serve as producer with Mary Parent, and Cale Boyter. Executive producers are Brian Herbert, Byron Merritt, Thomas Tull, and Kim Herbert for the Herbert family.
Dune will begin filming this spring in Budapest and Jordan.
