Warner Bros is making an animated Funko Pop movie

You’ve seen a Funko Pop! for just about every popular movie and television character, and some literary figures as well. Warner Bros is bringing these cute little dolls to life in a new animated movie.

According to Deadline, Allison Abbate, Executive VP of Warner Animation Group will manage the project on behalf of Warner Bros. Lloyd Taylor will write the script with Oscar-nominated director and designer Teddy Newton crafting the story.  Disney animation Mark Dindal may direct the film.

Funko was founded by Mike Becker in 1988.  The company relied on the licensing deals with other companies to create the collectible dolls.  The dolls are sold in retails stores and at comic cons across the United States and has expanded into clothing, board games, and cereal.

“We’re thrilled for this opportunity and are committed to make an amazing Funko movie that stands on its own merit. This isn’t about selling toys or building a brand. The team at Warner Animation Group have a unique vision of what the first film should be and we are extremely excited to take this journey alongside them.” – Funko CEO Brian Mariotti

There are no confirmed details about which pop culture characters will appear in the movie.  Seeing as how popular the Funko Pop! figures are, some deals would need to be made with other movie studios to put them in the film. Characters like  that Darth Vader, the Avengers, and the Pixar characters are owned by Disney.  But there are plenty characters in the Warner Bros. franchise.

The Funko Pop! movie does not have a release date yet.
