WandaVision head writer Jac Schaeffer serves as executive producer/writer for the new project, described as a “dark comedy.” Naturally, precise plot details are under lock and key. If the show moves forward, it’ll mark Schaeffer’s first Marvel collaboration since signing an overall deal with them and 20th Century in May.
According to Variety, Marvel Studios declines to comment regarding the spinoff.
Hahn plays nosy neighbor Agnes on WandaVision for the first half of the series until the big reveal that she’s a mighty witch named Agatha Harkness. After one last showdown, Wanda traps Agatha in Westview, perpetually forced to portray “Agnes” while stuck there.
Agatha becomes the Scarlet Witch’s mentor in the Marvel comics, and she survives the Salem Witch Trials.
The series aired earlier this year, breaking the mold as Disney Plus’ first Marvel live-action outing. Critics and fans lauded the show for its top-tier performances and dramatically different tone compared to its MCU predecessors.
WandaVision garnered a whopping 23 Emmy nominations, including Hahn for Best Supporting Actress in a Limited Series. While the series didn’t snag any acting category wins, it did take home Emmys for Outstanding Fantasy/Sci-Fi Costumes, Outstanding Original Music and Lyrics (Kristen Anderson-Lopez and Robert Lopez) and Outstanding Production Design for a Narrative Program (Half-Hour).
I love the dark comedy aspect of this. That said, I’m curious whether the show will delve into Agatha’s origins or what she was doing before joining Wanda’s Westview reality. Regardless, Hahn is a force of nature.
