When it comes to Halloween, a few famous names pop into people’s minds when thinking about horror or Halloween-themed movies. Most people think about actors such as Winona Ryder or Jamie Lee Curtis and characters such as Morticia Addams. Others even think of Catherine O’Hara in movies such as BeetlejuiceMonster House, and The Nightmare Before Christmas.

But a name that should absolutely come to mind as one of the horror queens for Halloween is Vera Farmiga. Her filmography includes several horror movies that have left fans sleeping with their lights on but coming back for more. Here are the ones you should watch.

Joshua (2007)

Most of Vera Farmiga’s horror movies seem to include families in one way or another. In Joshua, the Cairn family seems to be picture-perfect. The father is leading a successful career, the mother just gave birth to a healthy daughter, and the son seems to be the typical child prodigy with incredible levels of intelligence.

However, their picture-perfect life turns horrifying. Their pets start dying mysteriously, their daughter can’t seem to stop crying, and the son finds a new interest in mummification. Now, the parents need to find out if coincidences really do exist or if there is evil surrounding their prodigy son.

Orphan (2009)

The Coleman family included a son, a daughter, a father and a mother. Sadly, it also included their unborn child, who passed away, leaving Kate and John with a void they are trying to fill. That is when they decide to adopt and come across Esther when visiting the orphanage.

Esther seems to be the perfect addition to their family and seems on her best behavior when first coming home with the Colemans. However, very dangerous and scary events start taking place in the home or affecting the family, and Kate begins to suspect there might be more to Esther than meets the eye…evil more.

Anyone who is a fan of horror, demonic possessions and everything evil will absolutely know who Ed and Lorraine Warren are. However, for those who may not have had an idea of how closely this couple’s life was connected to evilness, a glimpse into their lives became available through The Conjuring franchise. Vera Farmiga became Lorraine and Patrick Wilson became Ed.

In The Conjuring, the Perron family, with their five daughters, has just moved into a new home when the mother notices there is something strange and ominous looming over them. It is then that she reaches out to the Warrens, who at first refuse to help but are then convinced the family needs them. As things continue to escalate, the Warrens investigate what could possibly be possessing this family’s new life.

The Conjuring 2 (2016)

After The Conjuring‘s success, people wanted to see more of Ed and Lorraine’s story brought to the screen, and that is exactly what The Conjuring 2 delivered. This time around, the Warrens made the trip across the pond to London to help Peggy Hodgson, a single mother who claims there is something evil attacking her family. With their investigation, the Warrens discover an evil force is possessing the youngest daughter.

However, many believe the Hodgson family is making this story up and refuse to believe Ed and Lorraine’s comments on what truly is going on. The two of them don’t give up on the family, and it is then that the evil spirit starts attacking them, too.

Godzilla: King Of The Monsters (2019)

Portraying famous people isn’t the only thing Vera Farmiga has done when adding horror to her list of films. Other times, she has been a part of myths and legends that are brought to the big screen. That is precisely what she did when the legendary monster Godzilla was brought back to movie theaters in 2019 in Godzilla: King Of The Monsters.

Godzilla is not the only mythological monster that comes to life in this movie. Other legends, such as Mothra, Rodan and King Ghidorah (with his three heads), also come back to life, and the four of them battle to see who can gain control. The future of humanity lies in which of these monsters comes out as the winner.

Annabelle Comes Home (2019)

The Conjuring franchise expanded to movies that directly or indirectly continued to tell the story of Ed and Lorraine Warren and the different cases they had been on throughout their lives. One of their most significant cases involved Annabelle, an evil spirit possessing a doll that seemed always to find its way back.

After every case, the Warrens kept the object of possession or something related to the case in a room in their home. Behind a locked glass case, that is where they kept Annabelle as well. However, in Annabelle Comes Home, it seems Annabelle has found its way back, terrorizing the Warrens’ daughter, her babysitter, and the babysitter’s friend.

One of the most recent told cases from the Warrens appears in The Conjuring: The Devil Made Me Do It. A cop comes across a young man who seems to be confused and covered in blood. After an investigation, the man is accused of murder. However, as his case goes on and into trial, he claims demonic possession.

That is when Ed and Lorraine come in to investigate if what he is telling is true. As they go over the facts with him and do their own research surrounding the home and the people who were murdered, their supernatural investigation becomes one of the most surprising ones of their careers.
