The Portal games are known throughout the gaming community for their unique puzzle mechanics, mysterious setting and, of course, the dry and often morbid humor of GlaDOS. Now Valve has returned to bless us with their new game, Aperture Desk Job. It was released for PC on Steam and for the Steam Deck on March 1, 2022, and we can’t get enough of it.
In Aperture Desk Job, you get to sit in the hot seat of an Aperture company product inspector. It comes off as a mix of Job Simulator that vaguely reminds me of Outerworlds. I think this is mostly because you can see other humans around, though you spend most of your time talking to your supervisor unit GraDY. Valve sure does have a thing about fun AI units. Right from the opening of this short game, you are hit with that signature Portal humor. The mechanics are simple enough. Inspect the products and don’t get fired. Easy…Right?

The playtime is relatively short, only about 30 minutes long, but definitely worth the time. I’ve replayed the opening a few times already to search for easter eggs or hints of what is to come for the series. Fans hope that this is a build-up to the long-awaited Portal 3! Even if it doesn’t release soon, this Aperture Desk Job is still well worth the time. Oh, and did I mention that it’s free? That’s right! I said F-R-E-E. That makes it an ooey-gooey lore-filled demo and we are eating it up.
Ready to download the Aperture Desk Job for yourself? Great! Head on over to Steam to find it here! Still, need some reassurance? Check out the trailer below!
Remember the important thing is to have fun… On your own time. Before you come in.
