It takes a lot to be on the Hollywood A-list these days. Sometimes, it can take years for up-and-coming actors to hone their craft and land a place in the big leagues. A crop of young actors in Hollywood are reminiscent of the ’80s Brat Pack stars as they often appear in projects with each other. However, they stand on their own two feet with their remarkable individual talent.
Many fans and critics think the age of the Hollywood movie star is over. Comic book characters have replaced it as the selling point. This group of newcomers proves there’s a wealth of talent who can carry the next generation of movies. From scream queens to edgy leading men, Hollywood boasts stars of the present and future.
Jenna Ortega
At only 22, Jenna Ortega harbors impressive credits after breaking into the industry as a child star. She became a household name with her role in Netflix’s mega-hit Wednesday and one of Gen Z’s final girls with roles in the Scream franchise and X.

Ortega was set to return for the upcoming Scream movie. However, a mixture of scheduling conflicts and other issues involving Melissa Barrera‘s firing led to her dropping out. She will next be seen in Tim Burton‘s Beetlejuice Beetlejuice in September 2024 and Season 2 of Wednesday.
Glen Powell
Glen Powell‘s big break arrived in Top Gun: Maverick as Lt. Jake ‘Hangman’ Seresin. He’s seen his star rise significantly since. 2024 is a massive year for him, with his new movie Hit Man gaining critical acclaim and shooting to the top of Netflix’s charts. Powell also co-wrote the comedy-drama with director Richard Linklater.
Powell has more exciting projects, with Twisters hitting theaters this summer and a remake of The Running Man in the pipeline. He is set to become one of the biggest stars in Hollywood, with his onscreen presence likened to past silver screen legends.

Timothée Chalamet
Call Me By Your Name earned Timothée Chalamet an Oscar nomination in 2018. His popularity has skyrocketed ever since. He has starred in blockbuster hits Dune Part I and II and Wonka while appearing in independent movies like Ladybird and Beautiful Boy.
Chalamet has also worked with the legendary director Martin Scorsese, albeit on a short commercial for Chanel. He will surely work with more of the greats as his career flourishes. Next, he’ll return as Paul Atriedes in Dune: Messiah followed by A Complete Unknown, playing the legendary musician Bob Dylan.
Barry Keoghan
If it wasn’t for Barry Keoghan prancing through a stately home in his birthday suit to Sophie Ellis-Bextor’s early 2000s hit “Murder On The Dancefloor,” we might not have appreciated this underrated hit again. That would’ve been a travesty. Saltburn was a massive hit for Keoghan in 2023. However, he’s been rising the Hollywood ranks for a few years, with brilliant performances in The Killing of a Sacred Deer, Dunkirk and Eternals.

Earlier this year, he starred in Apple TV+’s World War II drama Masters of the Air with Austin Butler. Upcoming projects include Amo Saddam, playing a soldier who guards Saddam Hussein before the Iraqi dictator’s trial and execution, and the Irish drama Bring Them Down.
Austin Butler
When Austin Butler was cast as Elvis Presley in the biopic of the rock star’s life, not many people knew him. However, it proved to be great casting. He went on to earn an Oscar nomination and rave reviews for his performance. Butler has also had pivotal roles in Quentin Tarantino‘s Once Upon A Time In Hollywood and The Dead Don’t Die.
Butler’s next role is Benny in The Bikeriders with Tom Hardy. It’s due for release on June 21 of this year. There is also an exciting rumor that Butler might portray Chris Shiherlis in Heat 2, originally played by Val Kilmer in the 1995 crime classic.

Sydney Sweeney
Sydney Sweeney, Zendaya’s co-star in Euphoria, has seen her career flourish after appearing in the hit TV series. She is the next generation’s scream queen, with roles in Immaculate and Madame Web. However, she’s too talented to get typecast. She’s also starred in the rom-com Anyone But You with Glen Powell and the crime thriller Americana.
