Everyone gets a cinematic universe! There were murmurs of this happening and even casting announcements but now we have more details. According to Variety, Universal has announced that their next entry will be Bride of Frankenstein. Even more so, they have a name for their film series – Dark Universe.

Bride of Frankenstein will be the movie studio’s sophomore (or junior?) entry in the series. We even have a release date – February 14th, 2019. (I see what you did there, Universal, you’re not slick. ) Bill Condon is currently set to direct the film and he is raring to go. “I’m very excited to bring a new Bride of Frankenstein to life on screen, particularly since James Whale’s original creation is still so potent. The Bride of Frankenstein remains the most iconic female monster in film history, and that’s a testament to Whale’s masterpiece—which endures as one of the greatest movies ever made.” Angelina Jolie was set to star but may have fallen out with scheduling issues. We have no further information than that.

As for the universe as a whole, nothing else has been officially announced. It’s unclear whether they consider Dracula Untold as the beginning of the universe but hopefully there will be clearance soon. LATimes reiterates that Johnny Depp was set to become the Invisible Man while Javier Bardem would be Frankenstein’s Monster, but these were older reports. However, a promotional photo shows the two actors among The Mummy stars so they may still be on board! Alex Kurtzman who directed the upcoming in the franchise, The Mummy, has helped create the universe. And today we have our first “look” with a small promotional video. Musical accompaniment? Danny Elfman. Because you don’t have spooky in this era without some Elfman, am I right?

Check out the video below and let us know what you think! The Mummy is set to release on June 9th and The Bride of Frankenstein will release on February 14th, 2019.
