Underworld Blood Wars

Have you experiences a lack of Kate Beckinsale in tight leather over the past few years?  I know I have.  Well, luckily the trailer for Underworld: Blood Wars is out and it’s deliciously dark and leather filled.

First part of the trailer is rehashing old movies, we get snippets of everything from the original Underworld all the way to Underworld: Awakening.  Then we move into what is presumably the current time, the Lycans have a new leader, Marius, and the Vampires argue over bringing Selene back into the fold.  All in all it’s the same story, new movie, Lycans vs Vampires. Round five. Fight!

As with the previous installments, this looks to be an action packed, supernatural thrill ride and I’m such a sucker for these movies.  Although, I do have a few questions, when we left Selene at the end of Awakening she had a hybrid daughter, Eve (India Eisley), and they were tracking down Michael (Scott Speedman).  So, I’m guessing both of those characters are now dead based on them not appearing in the trailer and Selene saying “Everyone I’ve ever loved has been hunted down”.  But, look at the credits, there is a character named Hybrid Michael played by Trent Garret.  So maybe Michael is in the movie? At least David (Theo James) is still around.

We all know why we watch these movies, it’s not the cohesive storyline and continuing plot, it’s Selene and the Lycan/ Vampire war.  This time it sounds like Selene is the chosen one because her “blood is the key”.  Huh, ok.

Then, towards the end of the trailer, we get the back view of a white haired women fighting then, later on, cut to Selene in a white long coat and partially white hair.  I’m sure there is something going on there, especially since we never see white haired lady’s face.  Another ancestor or something maybe?  Past life?  Who knows and, because it’s the Underworld franchise, it could be anything.

The next installment in the blockbuster franchise, Underworld: Blood Wars follows Vampire death dealer, Selene (Kate Beckinsale) as she fends off brutal attacks from both the Lycan clan and the Vampire faction that betrayed her. With her only allies, David (Theo James) and his father Thomas (Charles Dance), she must stop the eternal war between Lycans and Vampires, even if it means she has to make the ultimate sacrifice.

Underworld: Blood Wars hits theaters January 6, 2017.
