Sony Pictures Entertainment has given us a second look at the upcoming film Uncharted and I have to say that this trailer fares better than the first. That doesn’t mean that I am entirely on board with this video game adaptation being a true masterpiece, but it at least looks to be a step in the right direction. We get a better look at the story and a few more action scenes that the Naughty Dog franchise is known for.
The new Uncharted trailer gives us another look at some of the key players within the film, including Tom Holland‘s Nathan Drake, Mark Wahlberg‘s Sully and Antonio Banderas‘ Moncado. It helps nail down the idea that the film is more of a prequel to the games with a younger Drake who is still trying to find his footing in the world of treasure hunting and Sully is here to help him. It seems their first big job will be finding a lost treasure that pits them against Moncado. But the trailer gives us the impression that we will also be exploring Nate’s brother Sam.
The trailer boasts a bit more action and includes a more extended look at the death-defying airplane scene. And I have to say; Holland really pulls off the half-shirt tuck that Nathan Drake is known for. And while I think Holland looks fantastic in the role, it almost feels like he is the side character to Wahlberg’s Sully. And being an origin story of sorts, it would make sense that Sully would be the guide Drake needs. Hopefully, the film will prove that there is a bit more balance between the two characters and ramp up on the action sequences.
Uncharted is set to hit theaters on February 18, 2022. We’ve dropped the new trailer below! What do you think so far? Let us know in the comments below and on social media!
