Twitter Gets Into Gaming

Well, it’s official, gaming has now become popular/mainstream enough that Twitter has a handle specifically devoted to the best of games, gaming, gamers, and eSports.  Their latest account: @twittergaming.  Ok, let’s be fair, when ESPN is showing eSports, games are more than mainstream so this really isn’t that surprising.

There isn’t much on the feed yet, it’s just getting started.  The first tweet was a simple one:

Followed a few days later by:

Let’s all be honest, that one is just frakin adorable.  I’d like to steal it, but I won’t.

At the moment the account is mainly tweeting out salutations and retweeting responses, but it is gaining traction fast.  When I first found the account there were a little over 1,000 followers.  Since then, only a few hours prior to posting this article, it has now gained over 43,000 followers.  That’s one hell of a climb.

It looks to be very much a work in progress and I’m making the fairly safe assumption it will be similar to all the other official Twitter accounts, but only time will tell.  I’m all for anything that brings gaming more into popular culture and, one would again assume, this will be a safe space for gaming.  I doubt Twitter will tolerate harassment or abuse on one of its official accounts.

Not sure where they are going with this but I’m following to go along for the ride.
