Anthony Mackie will play John Doe in the upcoming Twisted Metal series.

A few months ago, news broke that Anthony Mackie would be taking on the lead role of John Doe in the tv series Twisted Metal. But even with Mackie attached to the project, we still had no idea where the series would find its home. Until today. Peacock has announced that it will be working alongside Sony Pictures Television, PlayStation Productions and Universal Productions to bring the series to life. It will be a comedy series with half-hour long episodes.

Twisted Metal is based on the long-running video game franchise of the same name that first dropped in 1995. The basis of the game is a demolition derby where players use ballistic projectiles, machine guns, mines and all kinds of weapons to take out other cars. Each installment features a bit of a storyline which seems to be the basis of the tv series. Plus, the idea that this will be a comedy makes it all the more appealing. Even if you hate clowns as I do.

Included in the Peacock announcement was that Michael Jonathan Smith will be serving as showrunner, writer and executive producer. He will be joined by other executive producers Rhett Reese, Paul Wernick, Will Arnett, Marc Forman, Jason Spire, Peter Principato, Asad Qizilbash, Carter Swan and Herman Hulst. Mackie will also be serving as an executive producer.

Now that we have a home for Twisted Metal and showrunner and a plethora of executive producers attached, it seems more like this project is going to come to fruition. TV show adaptations of video games have come a long way thanks to Netflix’s work with Castlevania and The Witcher, but that doesn’t guarantee that everyone will be a shining star. Alas, I am withholding judgment until we have first look-images or even a trailer to enjoy.

Twisted Metal is still early in production so be sure to check back for more news! What do you think so far? Are you excited about an adaptation of this series? Let us know in the comments below and on social media!
