DISCLAIMER: This recap of Twisted Metal Season 1 Episode 10, “SHNGRLA,” contains spoilers. Read at your own risk.
The season finale immediately begins with the Twisted Metal logo; no introduction this time. John Doe (Anthony Mackie) turns on the stereo and “The Distance” by Cake starts playing. All of the drivers are shown preparing for the mayhem. John and his allies speed across the parking lot head-on toward Stone as they all spray bullets. Quiet (Stephanie Beatriz) tells John to “line her up” and she launches a hatchet into a lawman’s head as they speed by.
The gun Quiet shoots on the passenger side (of her best friend’s ride) jams so she trades places with John so he can fix it. He quickly repairs the gun and immediately uses it to blow up a lawman. John bids the lawman “Jello” and Quiet explains that Jell-O is a dessert, not a greeting. Poor John finally realizes he has been using the word wrong this whole time. As they are having this conversation, two lawmen pull up on either side of Roadkill, sandwiching them. They point their guns past each other and simultaneously headshot both lawmen. Then they kiss complete with a huge explosion behind them. It looks like something from an old action movie poster. The whole scene is epic, ridiculous, and hilarious all at the same time.

As Quiet and John make out, Sweet Tooth (Joe Seanoa and Will Arnett) pulls up and says he always knew they would work things out. He loves what they did with the car and John returns the compliment by pointing out the clown’s fire hair. Quiet asks Sweet Tooth about his beef with Agent Stone (Thomas Haden Church) and the clown replies that he has a whole butcher shop. “Stone is mine,” Sweet Tooth yells as he speeds away. Stu stands in the back of the ice cream truck flipping the bird.
Stone comes out of nowhere and chases Roadkill to a racetrack using heavy fire. Once he is tailing them on the track, he sends out a homing missile. Watts (Jamie Neumann) suddenly appears in her drag car named Twister and intercepts the missile. After a lightning-fast lap around the track, she leads the missile right into Jamie and Carl in the pink hearse (I don’t think they are going to make it).

Flower Power (Diany Rodriguez) radios in from Juggernaut (the black semi from the convoy) as she pulls up next to Roadkill. Watts tells Amber to lay down cover so John and Quiet can escape. In the video games, Juggernaut was notoriously difficult to take down. Stone’s men send a bullet through the windshield of the big rig, hitting Amber in the neck. As her passenger leans over to put pressure on the wound, Sweet Tooth draws Stone’s attention and fire.
The clown launches a barrage of missiles that miss Stone but hit Juggernaut. Watts sees the truck go up in flames, screams, turns around and speeds back toward Amber. Stu (Mike Mitchell) almost falls out of the truck but Mike (Tahj Vaughans) catches him. Then Stu confronts Sweet Tooth about hitting Juggernaut because they are on the same side. The demented clown laughs maniacally then says, “There are no sides, Stubert! Everybody burns!”

Mike tries to shoot Sweet Tooth in the back but the clown grabs him. Sweet Tooth tells Stu to shoot Mike but Stu decides to shoot the clown; they roll out of the back of the truck. Stone pulls behind the ice cream truck and lays down fire. We see Sweet Tooth now has a gunshot wound where his eye used to be as he tells Harold (the paper bag) to take the wheel. Love to see more classic Sweet Tooth canon with that eye wound.
Sweet Tooth launches himself onto the windshield of Agent Stone’s car and begins smashing the glass. Stone gets fed up and shoots the clown through the windshield which sends him rolling onto the road. As Sweet Tooth stands up, he is violently run over by Stu and Mike in a random vehicle. As the two drive away, we see Harold land behind an empty clown mask.

Stone finds John and Quiet again and fires at them from behind. Quiet says she is tired of running and spins around heading straight toward Stone. They play a quick game of chicken and right before contact is made, Quiet pulls a lever that puts a ramp on the front of Roadkill. Stone hits the ramp going full speed and soars over Roadkill; he flips a few times before coming to a stop.
Quiet wakes up to an unconscious John but Stone immediately pulls her out of the vehicle. Stone gets Quiet to the ground and points a gun at her as he goes on another monologue about keeping people safe. He says people really just want to be kept in line. Quiet tells Stone he is just a sad and lonely man. When asked her last words, Quiet says, “Knock, Knock,” and John launches a hatchet right into Stone’s face.

As Stone squirms on his knees in pain, Quiet leaves him a gun and gives him the same choice he once gave her. Stone raises the gun to his head and Quiet and John hear a gunshot as they drive away. John and Quiet grab hands and smile at one another. John’s watch beeps and he speeds toward New San Francisco.
Watts pulls up to the burning frame that used to be Juggernaut. Amber miraculously runs up to greet Watts but the mangled body of their friend lies nearby. Their comrade sacrificed her life to save Amber and Watts swears they are going to pay.
When John and Quiet pull up to the gate of New San Francisco, the new guard gives them some trouble. They convince her that Raven (Neve Campbell) would not be happy about her important package being late. The guard radios in that the Milkman has made it. Raven comes out with a large group of armed guards and takes the package from Quiet who is hesitant. Raven then welcomes John to New San Francisco. However, when John and Quiet try to walk in together, Raven says that she is not part of the deal.

John insists that if Quiet cannot go, he isn’t going in either. Quiet pulls out a gun, shoots John, and tells the guards to get him medical attention. As the guards drag him inside the gate, he calls out to Quiet and she says, “Jell-O John.” As Quiet goes to leave, the guard throws her a bag of supplies and says it needs to go to San Diego. Quiet throws the bag into a crowd of struggling people gathered outside of the gate. The people celebrate as they pass around the supplies.
A guard approaches Raven and tells her that the Milkman has stabilized. Then he asks why Quiet could not come in and Raven says because she complicates things. Raven laughs as she opens the package John nearly killed himself for. It turns out, this extremely important package was just a pint of Rocky Road. She takes a bite of the ice cream and says it’s ok but she ordered Pistachio. She explains this was all just a test for John and Calypso upheld his end of the bargain, so far. They are going to get him used to his new life and then prepare him for his new job.

We join John a month later waking up in his nice new place. He then makes some impressive penis artwork with the icing on a Toaster Strudel. He hilariously tries to learn how to ride a bike which ends with him throwing the bike into a dumpster. Everyone in town happily greets John by name as he walks down the street. He repeats this over and over, strudel penis and all.
Later John sits in the bar with a group of people laughing all around him. The guy next to him creepily asks how many people John has killed but he brushes off the question by saying he doesn’t keep count. The creep then tells John to tell them about the clown. The group laughs in the background as Raven nods approvingly.

John meets a woman named Diane for a blind date and learns she is the guard who hassled him at the gate. A delivery guy brings by a pizza which blows John’s mind. As he tastes pizza for the first time, Quiet flashes in his mind. He is obviously upset that she is not there for the experience. Later, he sits on his car bed lost in thought. Yes of course he has that cool car bed we all wanted as kids.
On the road, Quiet ambushes a milkman and takes half of his supply delivery. She tells him that the insiders have been running things for far too long and somebody needs to share the wealth. She then takes her spoils — a container of radishes — and gives it to a homeless camp.
Raven sits in the bar and addresses all of the people from town. She asks how John is adjusting and the creepy guy from earlier says they would be friends even if they weren’t forced to. A woman lets Raven know that things with John and Diane are going well and she is going for a second date. Raven said they all need to make sure John is happy as she sews together a voodoo doll. The crowd rushes to their places as John approaches the bar. They greet him excitedly but John immediately announces to the room that he is leaving. Raven tries to talk John out of leaving to search for Quiet. She asks that they make a stop before she walks him to the gate.

A frustrated Quiet works on a broken down Roadkill on the side of the road. She tries different things until she finds and reconnects a loose connection. John flashes in her mind and says to try different pieces until it fits. Quiet is ecstatic when she turns the key and Roadkill roars to life.
Raven leads John to the front of a big beautiful house that she says is John’s childhood home. She tells him to check the mailbox and he finds more pictures of himself and his family. Raven says that if John stays, he will get the answers to all of his questions. He starts having flashbacks to the memories in the photos including his sister opening a Cypress Hill CD on Christmas. His last memory is his dad teaching him to drive. Gunshots go off in the background and John’s dad grabs a gun, jumps out of the car and tells him to drive. The next memory is John waking up from an accident with a head wound.

John says this isn’t who he is anymore and that his home is out there with Quiet. Raven is not happy about this and has guards hold him at gunpoint. Raven explains that there will be a tournament that is the first of its kind. We see the back of a person with long black hair making a tournament board. They slowly place pictures of all of the drivers we have seen so far. There is even a flash of Axel and Mr. Grimm who we have not seen yet. The only rule of this tournament is to survive. Calypso will grant a single wish for the winner of the tournament and it can be anything. Raven wants John to win her that wish by turning all of his opponents into burning piles of twisted metal.
As she drives, Quiet refers to her personal journal labeled “F*** Book: Volume 1.” The first few pages are crude drawings of different sex positions including her and John in the ball pit. When Quiet flips to a hand-drawn map labeled milkman routes, she runs over a spike strip and comes to a stop. When she looks up, she is surrounded by heavily armed women all wearing cracked doll masks. The masked woman standing in front of Quiet says they need to talk about her brother, John.
After the credits, Mike and Stu are seen roasting weenies on a beach in Shangri-La. They each sit with a silicone doll (yes that kind). Stu says that his girl is named Strawberry and he met her in a strip club. Mike’s girl is Cleopatra and she specializes in French cuisine. As they discuss going for a swim, Sweet Tooth pops out of nowhere like a Jack in the Box. He takes the machete to Mike and drags a screaming Stu off into the bushes.
Twisted Metal Season 1 is now streaming on Peacock.
