TV Guide Magazine is all about the fans, and its annual Fan Favorites panel is a comic-con staple. SDCC 2021 is no exception! Moderator Damian Holbrook sat down with several fan faves for a one-hour panel that celebrates this year in TV. So, who joined him?
Shawn Ashmore (The Boys), Lesley-Ann Brandt (Lucifer), Leah Lewis (Nancy Drew), Kaitlin Olson (It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia), Brec Bassinger (Stargirl), Jesse Lee Soffer (Chicago P.D.), Mädchen Amick (Riverdale), Camrus Johnson (Batwoman), Roselyn Sanchez (Fantasy Island) and Nicole Maines (Supergirl).
Talk about a stacked panel! Of course, since this is a panel dedicated to fan favorites, the panelists discussed some of their more … awkward fan encounters. Each performer went down the line and regaled us with their most memorable fan interactions.

Brandt revealed that a fan traveled from Italy for one day, just to meet her. The said fan showed her the tattoo of her face on his arm. Creepy or dedicated? Perhaps a mixture of both. Maines divulged that one person asked her on Cameo if she knew the “rules of the road.” Always use your turn signal, right?
Next, Ashmore didn’t specifically interact with this fan, but they received a terribly butchered tattoo of his face on their arm on Ink Master. Bassinger’s show, Stargirl, made its debut during the start of the pandemic. Thus, she hasn’t had any peculiar fan encounters yet. Sanchez told the panelists that one stranger proposed to her at an awards show.
Then, Lewis revealed that someone jumped out of the bushes in front of her Vancouver residence. They even tried to pick up her rescue dog. Of course, Amick is no stranger to fan interactions, especially with the cult-status success of Twin Peaks. Lots of Shelly Johnson ink.
Soffer was out for dinner with a castmate when a car wreck transpired nearby. They pulled a woman out of a ditch, and she recognized them from the Chicago TV universe. Johnson recalled being in a store in Vancouver when one woman blurted out that she was following him. The pair hugged it out, and he described her as a “super sweet” fan.
Now, It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia has been on the air for over 15 years, so it’s no surprise that Olson has a few strange fan stories up her sleeve. She told the panel about one time when the cast was trying to film a driving scene in Philly. Folks on the street kept shouting at them while they worked. One man gave her a beer and then proceeded to pull his penis out of his pants. Ick.
Besides peculiar fan interactions, our panelists discussed vital causes they support as well as the discomfort that comes with donning superhero costumes.
Overall, this one ranks high on my list of Fan Favorites panels. That being said, nothing will top 2016’s outing with Bruce Campbell. Nothing. I was there in person, and it was at least three hoots and a half.

KAITLIN OLSON: If you want a real a**hole with a woman’s body, I’m your go-to.
