Welcome to Tavern Talk Thursday! We are expanding! What started as a column dedicated to chatting with members of the TTRPG community is growing to talk about all things TTRPG. We aim to continue sharing all the things we love about the community and all the content within. So, consider this a little peek into our favorite worlds and creators as we explore everything we love.

Sometimes, after a long campaign, TTRPG players just need a break. However, what do you do when you want to hang out with your crew? How about a movie marathon session? And what better way to enjoy a movie or two or three that reminds us of the games we love? We have five suggestions based on everything from fantasy TTRPGs to space, horror and zombies galore. Movies to Binge With Your TTRPG Group

Dungeons and Dragons: Honor Among Thieves

We know that saying Dungeons and Dragons: Honor Among Thieves is a pretty easy answer to start off with, but we can’t help ourselves. We love this movie. For Dungeons and Dragons players, this is a must-watch in our book. It transports players into a world we love, surrounded by nostalgia and easter eggs. It’s a wild ride that features suspense and excitement but also catches the lightheartedness that can be found around every table.

A Cure for Wellness

For TTRPG fans who enjoy the spooky and mysterious over fantasy, we suggest spending a day bingeing A Cure for Wellness. Call of Cthulhu players will be able to recognize that feeling of questioning one’s sanity. The remote location, the mysterious characters, tons of secrets and unanswered questions will have you on the edge of your seat. Before diving in, we suggest checking out the trigger warnings.

Rogue One

The Star Wars franchise has seen some of the most exciting games, from digital to tabletop. The Star Wars Role-Playing system has given TTRPG players the chance to race across the galaxy and take part in their piece of the rebellion. While we love Jedi and the fight to bring balance to the force, Rogue One is the movie that really gives us the TTRPG feels. It’s a mission to save the world packed with adventure, suspense and hope.

Night of the Living Dead

If you have ever played a campaign of All Flesh Must Be Eaten, then it’s pretty safe to say that you should add Night of the Living Dead to your TTRPG movie marathon. Not only is this film a classic, but it screams a group of survivors just trying to band together to get through the night. If your group is looking for something more recent, we highly suggest tossing Shaun of the Dead on your list. In fact, our recommendation is to watch both.

Thir13en Ghosts

Our final pick for this list swoops back into the spooky side of TTRPGs. Really, Thir13en Ghosts is going straight to horror. Imagine having your players locked in an ever-changing house trying to solve a mystery while terrifying ghosts haunt their every move. It makes for the perfect Halloween season campaign. It is packed with lore and mystery that will have you glued to your seat. Plus, Matthew Lillard is absolutely terrific in this movie.
