Welcome to this week’s installment of Geek Girl Authority Crush of the Week, wherein we spotlight strong women and non-binary folks who inspire us. These characters are prime examples of empowerment and how crucial it is for youth to have said examples to follow.
DISCLAIMER: The following contains spoilers for Chicago P.D., particularly Sergeant Trudy Platt’s arc. Proceed at your peril.
Trudy Platt
Fast Facts
Trudy Platt (Amy Morton) is one of the OG characters on Chicago P.D., the longest-running female character the show has seen. She holds the title of Desk Sergeant, always keeping an eye on who comes in and out of the precinct. Because of this, she has unofficially become the protector of the unit, warning them whenever trouble is coming.
While Chicago P.D. watchers may claim for more Platt on the show, Chicago Fire viewers always get a closer insight into her personal life as Mouch’s (Christian Stolte) wife. Throughout the years, she has appeared on the firefighters’ show, not only adding to Mouch’s story but also helping her story to grow and allowing fans to learn more about her.

Trudy Platt has been around for decades, being one of the only remaining characters on the show who has known Voight (Jason Beghe) from the beginning of his career. She is the only one who can help get Voight under control while simultaneously pushing him to do his best work.
As the seasons have gone by, Platt has become everyone’s work mom. She takes care of the team, prioritizing their well-being over the work. Even though she might seem tough, she always comes around to show her caring and loving side.
The Real Deal
Recently, Platt went through a near-death experience on the One Chicago crossover, “In The Trenches.” She was the victim of a shooting as the three shows (Chicago Med, Chicago Fire and Chicago P.D.) combined their forces to put out fires, catch the bad guys and help save the lives of civilians and first responders. In the end, Platt helped save the day after she recovered conscience once she was out of surgery.

Her relationship with Mouch is also one of the longest-standing relationships in the franchise. While the two are on different TV shows, the bond manages to work because they both lead separate lives outside their marriage. Platt’s character can stand on its own beyond her husband because the show has built her up to be one of the most important characters, even though she only appears in a handful of episodes.
Why She Matters
Trudy Platt has always been willing to sacrifice her life for the job and her team. Whenever duty calls, she stands up to the challenge, even if that means taking a bullet for everyone else. Even when she is down for the count, Platt finds a way to save the day and keep her work family safe.
