Amazon Prime is getting into the sci-fi game with star-studded 10-episode anthology series based on author Philip K. Dick’s stories. The series, seemingly a more fantastic and futuristic sister to The Twilight Zone and Black Mirror, is called Philip K. Dick’s Electric Dreams. The trailer was released at NYCC this week, and it is a beautiful, haunting fever dream of the future.
Blade Runner and the new Blade Runner 2049 are based on the novel, Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep? by Philip K. Dick. That story delves deep into the question, ‘what is it to be human?’ And, this anthology series seems to focus on that very prominent theme in Dick’s stories. For fans, the stories used include, Human Is, Real Life, Crazy Diamond, The Hood Maker, Father Thing, The Commuter and Autofac.
The tag line in the trailer is ‘The Future is Still Human’ but the cast is a bit super-human. Some of the best actors in Hollywood are featured on this project. The series features Bryan Cranston, Terrance Howard, Anna Paquin, Janelle Monae, Greg Kinnear and Steve Buscemi, to name a few. The show will consist of 10 stand-alone episodes, and was developed by Battlestar Galactica’s Ronald D. Moore and produced by Cranston.
It’s not a narrative heavy trailer, so you don’t get a lot of details about the stories if you haven’t read them. Image heavy… it’s like an electric dream. Flashes of the future of humanity hypnotize in saturated color. It’s beautiful and haunting and worth watching. I am very excited for this show!
Philip K. Dick’s Electric Dreams will premiere on Amazon Prime in 2018.
