I dare you to watch the trailer to the new documentary about Fred Rogers without shedding a tear… or at least without welling up a little. Won’t You Be My Neighbor? from Focus Features and Oscar-winning filmmaker, Morgan Neville, details the rise, the influence and the magic of Mr. Rogers’ Neighborhood.
The trailer focuses on the unlikely success of a gentle man with no budget and a dream to help children feel loved and understood. The most compelling part is the discussion of Rogers as a change-maker. He is called ‘revolutionary’ in the trailer. And, he was. He took on causes for social justice, acceptance, and dealt with topics that children needed to talk about, but many were too afraid to address like divorce and death.
It’s an inspiring portrait of the man behind the character, and the character of that man. This trailer is beautiful. The movie looks amazing and healing. It is so needed in our world. Check it out. Look for the helpers.
