Black Mirror is back!!! After many rumors and a vacuum of confirmed details, the Black Mirror event, Bandersnatch, has an awesome trailer. It also has a release date that is, well, soon.
The Bandersnatch trailer focuses on a young computer programmer in 1984 who is adapting an “adventure game” from a novel by “that bloke who went cuckoo and cut his wife’s head off.” He bypasses what looks like necessary prescribed medication for the idea that, for his new job, “a bit of madness is what you need.” That seems ill-informed. The result is “visions” and a fight for reality.
The tag lines in the trailer read, Change your Mind, Change your Life, Change Your Past, Your Present, Your Future. Those tags are followed by the line “your fate has been dictated.” And, it doesn’t look good for our young little computer man.
The trailer has a few awesome Easter eggs. It can’t be any mistake that this story is set in 1984 and an austere woman on a television says “You’re not in control.” There’s a flash of bloody drawings when a VHS tape is put in that make reference to season 2’s “White Bear” episode. And, look for the poster for a Metl Hedd video game (“Metalhead” was one of the most disturbing episodes of the last season of Black Mirror, and shares a director with Bandersnatch).
In 1984, a young programmer begins to question reality as he adapts a sprawling fantasy novel into a video game and soon faces a mind-mangling challenge. Welcome back.
Black Mirror: Bandersnatch premieres December 28th on Netflix. Welcome back.
