The trailer for the new horror/thriller Bird Box came out on Thursday. It’s a terrifying journey in the dark, with a mysterious title. Sandra Bullock is blindly looking for a place to survive with her children.
Trevante Rhodes, Sarah Paulson and John Malkovich join Bullock in what we at GGA are fondly referring to as “The Blinded Place”. But, despite the movie’s seeming similarities to The Quiet Place, there are new reasons to be afraid. Seeing whatever is out there in the world of Bird Box, makes you kill yourself out of fear or madness or both. And, the only way to survive is to avoid looking. That means an epic journey through dangerous terrain… blindfolded.

We don’t get any kind of look at the creatures that are the threat in this world. Though, whoever Bullock is fighting at the end of the trailer looks very human. That would be a twist. Nor do we get an idea of what the title means. It looks like Bird Box might be looking for The Quiet Place audience with this trailer, and keeping some surprises close to the vest.

When a mysterious force decimates the world’s population, only one thing is certain: if you see it, you take your life. Facing the unknown, Malorie finds love, hope and a new beginning only for it to unravel. Now she must flee with her two children down a treacherous river to the one place left that may offer sanctuary. But to survive, they’ll have to undertake the perilous two-day journey blindfolded.
Bird Box starts streaming on Netflix, December 21st.
