I know, I know. We aren’t even at Thanksgiving and people are talking Christmas. But, the first trailer for the BBC and FX’s A Christmas Carol is so scary, it might be more appropriate for Halloween than Christmas.

Steven Knight (Peaky Blinders) has adapted Dickens’ famous Christmas ghost story, this time around. Guy Pearce stars as Ebeneezer Scrooge and he’s visited by a very spooky Andy Serkis as the ghost of Christmas past in the trailer. “Come and look upon the evil that you did.” says Serkis. And, that evil looks very, very dark in this version of the story. They are not pulling punches on the evil, you guys. There are some grotesque, disturbing and very sad images in this trailer. “Justice will grab you by the throat and drag you to the truth.” I mean, wow.

Pearce and Serkis are joined by Stephen Graham (Jacob Marley), Charlotte Riley (Lottie), and Joe Alwyn (Bob Cratchett). Knight said of the event, “This production of ‘A Christmas Carol’ will respectfully present what we believe to be a timely interpretation of a timeless story,”. Variety reported Monday.

Knight’s A Christmas Carol will be presented as a three-part series with an as yet unannounced release date this December.
