Torchwood is a beloved spin-off series that garnered many fans over it’s run. While the BBC show ended in 2011 after a 4 series run, it hasn’t left fans hearts. That’s why news of it’s return was thrilling – until we heard just how it’s returning. It’s not all bad news though! RadioTimes gave us some insight.
Series 5 of Torchwood will be an audio drama. While it may not be a live action show, we will be able to experience their stories continuing. Radio dramas are a Doctor Who staple, so it only makes sense for more stories to be told through that medium. In fact, the 8th Doctor was able to expand his mythos through audio dramas. And there’s clearly a market for them! The series will pick up after the events of Miracle Day, which saw the team go through an emotional rollercoaster.

Showrunner Russell T Davies even created some new characters for this 5th series called Aliens Among Us. It will see Harkness and Cooper trying to restart Torchwood in Cardiff. Aliens Among Us will be released as a 12-part audio drama and will release part one this August.
