The early years of television game shows are iconic, but often fade into the somewhat buttoned up haze of the middle of the twentieth century. While the genre is often remembered as a bit of a boys club in shows like What’s My Line, To Tell the Truth and I’ve Got a Secret, a number of women actively participated in these early series and not only crafted reputations, but defined successful careers during this era of entertainment. 

This week on Female Gaze Productions, I’m examining the Top 5 Women in the Classic Game Show Era. A quick spin through YouTube immediately shows women like Betty White, Bess Myerson and Arlene Francis using these series to develop and grown their careers into the popular figures they would become.
