Tom Welling returns as Superman in Crisis on Infinite Earths

After months of speculation, Tom Welling is officially guest starring in the CW Crossover, Crisis on Infinite Earths. TV Line reports Welling will reprise his Smallville role of Clark Kent, aka Superman.

Per The CW, the crossover will “reveal what happened to Clark Kent almost ten years” after the conclusion of Smallville. Arrow EP Marc Guggenheim said in a statement, “For eight years, Arrow has stood on the shoulders of Smallville.  Simply put, there would be no Arrow, and no Arrowverse, without it. So when we first started talking about ‘Crisis on Infinite Earths,’ our first, second and third priorities were getting Tom to reprise his iconic role as Clark Kent. To say that we’re thrilled would be a Superman-sized understatement.”

Tyler Hoechlin and Brandon Routh will also reprise their roles as versions of Superman. Hoechlin’s Clark Kent/Superman is a staple on Supergirl and Earth 38. Routh’s return to the role was announced during the final Arrow panel at San Diego Comic Con.  Routh will by playing Kingdom Come Superman.

This is so exciting! With the worlds literally colliding, it was only a matter of time before we saw the Smallville versions of these superheros in the Arrowverse.  Now, I’m hoping Dean Cain will come out of superhero retirement as well. Cain guest starred on Supergirl as Jeremiah Danvers, Kara’s adoptive father in the CW series.

With the new seasons starting soon, I’m hoping we’ll hear more about the crossover and maybe some more surprise appearances.

Here is the schedule for the CW crossover event, Crisis on Infinite Earths:

Supergirl – Sunday, Dec. 8, 2019

Batwoman – Monday, Dec. 9, 2019

The Flash – Tuesday, Dec. 10, 2019

Arrow – Tuesday, Jan. 14, 2020

DC’s Legends of Tomorrow – Tuesday, Jan. 14, 2020
