Oooh this is big news! According to Variety, Tom Hardy will star in an upcoming spin-off film, Venom. That’s right, Tom Hardy is going to play Eddie Brock aka Venom. This is fantastic news! Not only was the star announced, we also have a director and release date.
According to the article, Sony is eager to continue to build it’s extended universe as Spider-man: Homecoming is on a trajectory for success. And with Marvel and Sony playing nice, it appears the company is ready to hold onto it’s rights. While we have no other word on future films, we do know that with the Amazing Spider-man series they had planned on making a Sinister Six film. But that idea may come to fruition if the film is a success.

The film will be helmed by director Ruben Fleischer best known for his film Zombieland. Scott Rosenberg and Jeff Pinkner will be writing the script for Venom. And it will be released in fall of 2018. This all feels really fast but given we’ve gotten used to superhero movies being announced years in advance, this is quite a nice surprise. Personally I think Hardy is a great choice for the role and I can’t wait to see what he does with it.
What do you think of the news? Do you like Hardy as Venom or would you cast someone different? Let us know! Venom will be in theaters October 5th, 2018.
