If you haven’t heard by now, Netflix is seriously considering cancelling the Lucifer cancellation, at least for one more season. That extra season is closer to happening after today. TV Line announced Tom Ellis signed an extend contract for one more season of Lucifer, should the streaming service greenlight the sixth season.
Many of the Lucifer cast have existing deals that carry them through season six. Co-showrunners Ildy Modrovich and Joe Henderson signed a season six deal last week. Looks like everything is place. It’s up to Netflix to finalize the deal.
What a ride it’s been for the DC Comic turned television series. The series premiered on Fox in 2016 and stayed there for three seasons. Fox cancelled the series and Netflix rescued them, partly thanks to the Twitter campaign to #SaveLucifer.Netflix signed the series and at the conclusion of the fourth season, announced that season five will be the last. Season five will consist of sixteen episodes in two halves and is in the final stages of production.
Ellis recently appeared in the latest Arrowverse crossover Crisis on Infinite Earths, making Mr. Morningstar canon in the DC/CW universe. Nothing is definite, but I don’t think the actors would sign on for another season if it wasn’t going to happen. I think I’m more excited for season six than I am for that musical episode in season five….maybe….
Lucifer also stars Lauren German, Kevin Alejandro, D. B. Woodside, Lesley-Ann Brandt, Rachael Harris, Aimee Garcia, and Scarlett Estevez. Dennis Haybert joins the cast as the Almighty God.
Lucifer returns to Netflix….sometime soon.
