Top Gun 2, officially entitled Top Gun: Maverick, is coming to theaters. Tom Cruise gave Twitter users a taste on Thursday with a pic from the first day of production. It’s been 32 years since Cruise has donned the Maverick helmet. And it’s pretty exciting to see it again.

The picture shows Cruise, as Maverick, suited up and ready to fly. He’s gazing at his plane, the words ‘Feel the Need’ can be seen over the image. It’s a promo photo, not a candid shot from set like you might expect from day one of production. It’s been produced. But let’s be honest, I do not care because it really gives all of the Top Gun feels.

Joseph Kosinski (Oblivion) will direct the sequel. Original Top Gun composer Harold Faltermeyer and producer Jerry Bruckheimer will be back in their roles for the film. According to The Hollywood Reporter, the story is “set in the current time and dealing with very modern warfare, Maverick follows fighter pilots as they grapple with drone tech that is making their old style of flying obsolete.”
Top Gun: Maverick will fly into theaters July 12, 2019.
