Gretchen Wieners spent a good chunk of her role in the iconic film Mean Girls trying to make her favorite slang word- fetch- happen. What exactly does fetch mean? The literal Urban Dictionary definition reads “The word that really hot girl from Mean Girls was trying to make slang for cool, awesome, or good.” Either way, it wasn’t working. Now, over 14 years later, the film’s creator Tina Fey is finally making fetch happen! How? In a pretty fetch way.

A city block in New York- the stretch of 52nd Street between Broadway and Eighth Avenue- will officially be named W. Fetch Street; even the sign is pink, ya’ll. Now when one is refers to this block, the people of NYC will be forced to use the word fetch. Finally a win for poor Gretchen Wieners. During the official Mean Girls Day celebration outside the August Wilson Theater, Commissioner Julie Menin made the announcement before the evening’s special fan performance. On top of that? Aaron Samuels himself! Along with Fey, Jonathan Bennett made it in time for the celebration just to chit chat and occasionally ask what day it was.
