Well this is news I wasn’t expecting! One of the more anticipated castings for Doom Patrol has been the fearless leader to the misfits. Just who would be able to draw all of those personalities together into their own super group? Who would encompass the madness that is Dr. Niles “The Chief” Caulder? Well according to THR, actor Timothy Dalton is up to the task – and we couldn’t think of a more perfect casting.

This marks the return to television for Dalton and a first in the superhero genre. The one-time Bond has a lot of credit to his name, including appearing on Doctor Who, voice acting in Toy Story 3, and even being a wily grocery manager in Hot Fuzz. He recently finished the third season of Penny Dreadful, for the horror fans out there. Pretty much, he’s done it all – except for delving into superhero films/TV shows! And no, James Bond doesn’t count as a superhero.

Dalton’s role as Caulder will be similar to the comics. He’s described as a pioneer in medical science; a brilliant man albeit a bit controversial. He’s driven by a need to save people and will stop at nothing to save them, including his own little ragtag team. He leads Robotman (Brendan Fraser), Negative Man (Dwain Murphy), Elasti-Woman (April Bowlby) and Crazy Jane (Diane Guerrero) with the help of Cyborg (Joivan Wade).

How excited are you for the casting? I’m super pumped. I really enjoyed Dalton in Hot Fuzz so I can’t wait to see what he does with the role of The Chief. He seems utterly brilliant for the role and really puts the cherry on top of some great casting by the crew. Now we just have to hope that the show is really well done!

The 13 episode long drama will be produced by Greg Berlanti (Arrowverse, Titans) and written by Jeremy Carver (Supernatural). You can catch Doom Patrol sometime in 2019 on the all-DC-all-the-time streaming service DC Universe. Be sure to come back to Geek Girl Authority for more Doom Patrol news!
