Attack of the 50 Foot Woman

Tim Burton is set to direct a remake of Attack of the 50 Foot Woman for Warner Bros., this according to Deadline – read on to find out what we know about the project so far.

After recently wrapping filming on Beetlejuice Beetlejuice (AKA Beetlejuice 2), Burton is tackling a remake of the 1958 sci-fi cult classic. Joining him on the film is mystery writer Gillian Flynn, the writer behind the book and film Gone Girl.

The original Attack of the 50 Foot Woman follows an heiress whose encounter with an extra-terrestrial makes her grow to 50 feet tall. This throws a new wrench into her already complicated marriage, especially when she finds her husband at a bar with another woman.

Burton is familiar with making weird and fantastical movies. Beetlejuice aside, his 1996 film Mars Attacks! was an homage to the science fiction films of the 1950s. He also directed reboots of Planet of the Apes, Dark Shadows and Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, as well as a few episodes of The Addams Family reboot, Wednesday. Flynn, on the other hand, is known for adapting her own novels in the psychological thriller genre.

Plenty of Burton’s films have gained cult-favorite status over the years, so I have high hopes for his version of Attack of the 50 Foot Woman. What do you think of the reboot news? Let us know below and stay tuned for more info on this exciting project.
