“Do you hear the ticking?” The ominous question asked through out the trailer for The House with a Clock in Its Walls. The first trailer for the movie based on a children’s book of the same title is now available. And I have to say, I’m actually afraid to find out why there’s a clock in the wall.

Cate Blanchett and Jack Black star as a wizard and a witch who welcome Black’s nephew Lewis, played by Owen Vacarro. The trailer opens with Blanchett welcoming Lewis to his new home. Black warns Lewis that things are “quite different” at his home. Lewis finds out real quick just how different. There’s a clock in the walls. Black says they don’t know what it does, but it’s something horrible that can bring about the end of the world.

This movie reminds me of Goosebumps…with a little bit of a Harry Potter feeling. I am surprised that the film is directed by Eli Roth. Roth is best known for his gory horror films. I don’t expect there to much blood and gore, but I have a feeling Roth will surprise the audience. There seems to be a lot of jumpy moments, and I hope some funny moments as well. It’s a scary movie for kids, but I think some adults will be hiding their eyes as well. Check out the trailer below:
A young orphan named Lewis Barnavelt aids his magical uncle in locating a clock with the power to bring about the end of the world.
The House with a Clock in its Walls premieres in theaters on September 21, 2018.
