The MCU Returns
After a relatively quiet 2024, the MCU is back in 2025 with three films planned for release, as well as the Disney+ series Daredevil: Born Again. Thunderbolts* is the year’s second, following a group of antiheroes as they attempt to come together and save the world.
Marvel veterans Florence Pugh and Sebastian Stan return as Bucky Barnes/The Winter Soldier and Yelena Belova. Also back are Hannah John-Kamen as Ava Starr/Ghost, Wyatt Russell as John Walker/U.S. Agent and Olga Kurylenko as Antonia Dreykov/Taskmaster.
Thunderbolts* Looks for an Antihero
The new trailer opens with Julia Louis-Dreyfus as CIA director Valentina Allegra de Fontaine warning a courtroom that the Avengers aren’t coming. She then asks, “Who will keep the American people safe?” There’s a big threat out there, and the newly assembled Thunderbolts are the world’s only hope.

Set to Starship’s Nothing’s Gonna Stop Us Now, the crew gets to know each other, but Yelena expresses some doubt, stating, “We can’t do this. No one here is a hero.” Alexei responds, “Yelena, when I look at you, I don’t see your mistakes. That’s why we need each other.”
The film’s big bad is still shadowy – literally. There’s a brief look at the soul-devouring shadow The Void, a mysterious aspect of Robert Reynolds, aka the Sentry. We hear his voice, too, declaring, “You thought you were going to be some great saviors? You can’t even save yourself” before throwing John Walker out a window. Interspersed through it all, we get a few shots of the Thunderbolts involved in shootouts, car chases and more general mayhem.
From what we’ve seen so far, this movie is going to be incredibly fun. Thunderbolts* hits theaters on May 2, 2025. Check out the trailer below, then let us know what you think.
