Highlights

  • Marvel has unleashed the official teaser trailer for Thunderbolts*, which you can watch below.
  • Additionally, we have the first poster for our all-new, all-amoral team.
  • The film barrels into theaters next year.

Marvel Studios has released the teaser trailer and a poster for Thunderbolts*. The upcoming Marvel Cinematic Universe movie features a team that’s more morally questionable than the Guardians of the Galaxy. The teaser, featuring the tagline “Be careful who you assemble,” features familiar faces (and a new one). Scroll on down to watch for yourself.

The Thunderbolts* trailer opens with (per Marvel Studios PR) “depressed assassin” Yelena Belova (Florence Pugh), aka Black Widow, visiting her father, Alexi Shostakov (David Harbour), aka Red Guardian. And by the way, it doesn’t seem like Shostakov is doing so well mental health-wise himself. But soon, they’re teaming up with “the MCU’s least anticipated band of misfits” (again, per the official PR).

The additional misfits in question are Bucky Barnes (Sebastian Stan), aka the Winter Soldier, John Walker (Wyatt Russell), aka U.S. Agent, Taskmaster (Olga Kurylenko) and Ghost (Hannah John-Kamen). They’ll all be assembled by CIA Director Contessa Valentina Allegra de Fontaine (Julia Louis-Dreyfus), a woman who knows her moral ambiguity.

Not too much has been revealed by the teaser, aside from a lot of explosions. However, we get our first look at “Bob” (Lewis Pullman). This is Robert Reynolds, aka Sentry. If you notice what appears to be Bob blocking bullets with his chest, you might already realize a comparison between Sentry and DC Comics’ Superman isn’t entirely out of line. But Clark Kent and his squeaky-clean moral code don’t match Sentry. Instead, he’s more akin to the other questionable members of the makeshift MCU team.

Thunderbolts* is scheduled for release in theaters on May 2, 2025, after the release of Captain America: Brave New World, which arrives on February 14, 2025. Will you be exploding into theaters to see it when it arrives?

Red Guardian, Ghost, the Winter Soldier, U.S. Agent, Taskmaster and Sentry all smash into frame while Black Widow looks annoyed and a little bored.
