Marvelous news, geeks! We have our second look at Taika Waititi‘s Thor: Love and Thunder. This new trailer dropped during the NBA Playoffs, so you may have missed its premiere. But don’t worry, whether you were using the facilities during the break or not inclined to watch the game, we have to trailer for you!
The Thor: Love and Thunder trailer opens with Korg (Waititi) narrating the story of the “Space Viking, Thor Odinson” (Chris Hemsworth) to children huddled in a cave on a wartorn planet. We predict this scene will be shown early in the movie and serve as a preamble to catch the audience up on the MCU.

From there, we glimpse Thor in a fight reaching for Mjolnir, his hammer, but it flies into the hands of Jane Foster (Natalie Portman). Inscribed on the hammer are words familiar to Marvel fans that read:
Whosoever holds this hammer, if he be worthy, shall possess the power of Thor.
“He” is she, as Jane now wields the hammer and shoulders the mantle Thor left when he retired. Viewers get more than a glance this time at Jane’s triumphant return to the MCU and a better scope of the relationship between her and Thor. Thor might be more into Jane than she is into him.
We then see the pair alongside King Valkyrie (Tessa Thompson), traveling to meet with Zeus (Russell Crowe) in Olympus, where Thor *cough* bares it all before the other gods. The last few main MCU movies were serious in tone, so I’m glad that Thor is keeping the lightheartedness we saw in his other films.
Not that it won’t have dark moments, especially with Gorr (Christian Bale), a.k.a. “The God Butcher,” being the main antagonist for the film. I would advise against getting too attached to any of the gods from the other pantheons.
Ultimately, this trailer ramped up my anticipation for the film. With double the love, double the thunder and more dad rock than even Star-Lord can crank in his ship, setting it up to be a guaranteed blockbuster. Thor: Love and Thunder arrives in theaters on July 8, 2022.
