The mouse is on the case in the latest Pokémon: Detective Pikachu trailer. In it, we learn a bit more about the story of just how Pikachu (Ryan Reynolds) ended up in Tim’s (Justice Smith) life. Plus we also learn that Pikachu may or may not be completely addicted to coffee like most adults.

The trailer begins where Pikachu’s story starts. He’s woken up with amnesia and doesn’t know where he is. In fact, he’s out in the middle of no where and his only clue is an address inside his hat. That’s also when he meets Tim, who lives at the address in his hat. With the two of them working the case together, they can locate Tim’s missing father! Maybe. Pikachu might have performance issues. There’s also a really menacing Mewtwo flying around who may or may not have shot the car Tim’s father was driving in.

While this movie doesn’t look like it will be my cup of tea, it looks super adorable. A twinge of nostalgia pulls at my heart strings just seeing all of these Pokémon in the real world. Do you know how badly I wanted to see a Snorlax?! That aside, they’re definitely leaning in to Reynolds’ performance in Deadpool and making it PG version. It could be funny and really work out. Or fall flat on it’s face. I really just can’t deny how cute Pikachu looks though, honestly.

Finding that they are uniquely equipped to communicate with one another, Tim and Pikachu join forces on a thrilling adventure to unravel the tangled mystery. Chasing clues together through the neon-lit streets of Ryme City—a sprawling, modern metropolis where humans and Pokémon live side by side in a hyper-realistic live-action world—they encounter a diverse cast of Pokémon characters and uncover a shocking plot that could destroy this peaceful co-existence and threaten the whole Pokémon universe.
