THE WITCHES Trailer Delivers a Cauldron of Fun

Still of Anne Hathaway in The Witches, coming to HBO Max.

Spooky season is here, witches and warlocks! The Witches dropped an official trailer for the Robert Zemeckis flick on Friday. The film will debut on HBO Max later this month.

Now, The Witches is from the mind of author Roald Dahl, who released the children’s dark fantasy novel in 1983. A film adaptation starring Anjelica Huston soared into theaters in 1990. Zemeckis has reimagined the Dahl classic for a new generation.

The trailer is narrated by Chris Rock. Rock portrays an older version of a young boy (Jahzir Bruno) who has a run-in with a coven of formidable witches. This particular coven wholly despises children. The Grand High Witch (Anne Hathaway) puts a plan in motion to turn all children into mice. Zemeckis’ vision is more whimsical than Nicolas Roeg‘s 1990 film. It’s fraught with vivid colors and an over-the-top Hathaway. Initially, I found Hathaway to be too grandiose. However, I had to remind myself that this is a family film. It’s par for the course. Stanley Tucci also portrays Mr. Stringer. I’m a simple gal — I see Stanley Tucci, I watch Stanley Tucci.

You can check out the trailer below. The Witches stars Anne Hathaway, Jahzir Bruno, Chris Rock, Octavia Spencer, and Stanley Tucci. Get your cauldrons and broomsticks ready for Thursday, October 22, when The Witches flies onto HBO Max.
