Netflix dropped a brand-new trailer for the second half upcoming third season of their hit adaptation, The Witcher. This current season marks the final performance for Henry Cavill as Geralt, with Liam Hemsworth set to take over the role in the streaming service’s fourth season.

If you aren’t caught up with the first five episodes, you’ll find spoilers ahead. You can also catch up or refresh with our recaps linked below.

In the closing arc of the first volume, audiences leave Geralt, Ciri (Freya Allan) and Yennefer (Anya Chalotra) at a ball that was meant to be a peaceful transition before the conclave of the mages meets to negotiate an alliance. Geralt and Yennefer spend their evening scheming to take down Stregobor, but they’re not the only ones planning.

Though initially, they conclude Stregobor (Lars Mikkelsen) is the one kidnapping the young mages and committing other atrocities we follow throughout the season, something doesn’t add up. After they compare stories, they realize Stregbor isn’t to blame; Vilgefortz (Mahesh Jadu) is. Before they can do anything about it, Geralt walks into a battle raging in the building. That’s when Dijkstra (Graham McTavish) reappears, holding a blade to Geralt’s throat and warning him to pick a side. That’s where the story ends for Volume 1.

Now, let’s get into this trailer breakdown. It seems like the show will pick back up where it left off in the first half, with the trailer showing a tense battle across the ballroom floor. We assume Dijkstra or one of the other many schemers must have blocked portals away from the fight, so we expect a big, bloody comeback.

Speaking of portals, we also see Ciri fall from a portal into the desert and meet a unicorn before jumping from the maw of a giant sand monster. This season has worked a lot on building her Witcher skills and validating her monster training, however, so I think this will be an epic fight scene.

Ciri isn’t taking all of the heat or glory, though, as Geralt and Yennefer appear in hot water, too. Both are seen covered in blood and fighting for their lives against enemies from all sides. It seems like Geralt’s trademark neutrality didn’t make him as many allies as it did enemies.

The final three episodes of The Witcher will air on July 27, 2023. Check out the brand-new trailer below. Are you prepared to say goodbye to Cavill’s Geralt? What details did you spot in the trailer? Let us know in the comments below and on social media!
