Netflix dropped a brand new trailer for the upcoming animated film The Witcher: Nightmare of the Wolf this morning and oh man, are we in love. The film takes place before the events of The Witcher live-action series and follows Geralt’s (Henry Cavill) mentor. Vesemir, being voiced by Theo James, is a swashbuckling young witcher who escaped a life of poverty to slay monsters for coins.

In The Witcher: Nightmare of the Wolf, Vesemir goes up against a strange new monster who begins terrorizing an already politically fraught kingdom. He finds himself in a frightening adventure that forces him to confront the demons of his past. The trailer does a marvelous job of introducing us to the character of Vesemir. Unlike the broody and silent Geralt, Vesemir is charming, witty and dare I say, rather cheeky. But it isn’t all wooing and charm, though. We get an equal amount of monster-slaying through the trailer that pumps up the adrenaline.

We also get a look at Tetra, voiced by Lara Pulver, within the trailer as well. She is a powerful sorceress who is descended from one of the Continent’s first mages. It looks as if she is going to be traveling with Vesemir on this journey. A witcher, a mage and now we only need a bard. I’m just kidding. Unless? Along with the trailer, Netflix also announced that The Witcher: Nightmare of the Wolf will also have Graham McTavish voicing Degla and Mary McDonnell voicing Lady Zerbst.

The film reminds me heavily of the animated Castlevania series, which only makes me love it even more. Netflix has done a terrific job of delivering adult animated series that don’t shine away from the blood and gore. The trailer does the justice of drawing us in and holding onto our excitement so much that I hope that Netflix decides to do an entire series around Vesemir. While yes, Geralt is still my main witcher, for now, this charming mentor might just take his spot.

The Witcher: Nightmare of the Wolf will drop onto Netflix on August 23, 2021. We’ve linked the trailer below and some first look images for you to enjoy. What is your favorite part and why is it Vesemir’s charm? Let us know in the comments below and on social media!
