For those who feared The Wheel of Time television series was dead, you don’t need to fret just yet. In a recent interview with Deadline, new Amazon Studios head Jennifer Salke talked about her transition over to the company, their upcoming projects and so much more. But one question came up which gave us a look at what was going on for the high fantasy series based on Robert Jordan‘s massive collection of work.
Last year, it was announced that Sony had won the rights and had intended on bringing the series to television. News about the show has been quiet since then but as we learned, there’s a new development. It seems as though Sony has recently teamed up with Amazon to attempt at adapting the series. As an important note, it’s not guaranteed. When Salke was asked about the high-profile genre projects (including The Wheel of Time) that haven’t been talked about in a while, she answered with enthusiasm. “Those are scripts that I haven’t gotten yet. I’ll be seeing those, that material, in the coming weeks. None of those things are dead. They’re very much alive.”
While it’s possible that Amazon could try to make a television series, it seems like it would come much later on. The company is going full steam ahead on The Lord of the Rings series, so another long fantasy TV series may not be in the cards. If they do go ahead, I’d be very interested to see what they do with it. I mean, the main book series has 14 books in it! But, never say never, right?
What do you think of the news? Are you looking forward to a Wheel of Time series or would you rather have the legacy remain in novel form? Let us know! Be sure to come back to Geek Girl Authority for more book adaptation news.
