Amazon's The Wheel of Time hired director Uta Briesewitz

The Wheel of Time has gained a director. Amazon’s adaptation of Robert Jordan‘s epic series has hired Uta Briesewitz to helm the first two episodes. According to Deadline, Briesewitz joins showrunner Rafe Judkins on bringing this massive fantasy series to life.

The director is no stranger to genre properties, as she’s brought her talents to multiple series. Her latest work includes “Kiksuya” from Westworld and two episodes on the third season on Stranger Things. She’s also directed episodes in Jessica JonesFear the Walking DeadAltered Carbon, and many, many more.

It’s thrilling to hear Briesewitz joining the show, even if it’s just for two episodes. Her artistic eye is going to set up the series and make the biggest impact. One of the most talked about episodes from Westworld was the one she directed! Not only that, but it’s just great that a woman is behind the lens. We need to see more of this, Hollywood! Keep hiring talented women!

Amazon says of the series, “The Wheel of Time is set in a sprawling, epic world where magic exists, but only women can use it. Meaning that in this series — women hold the keys to power. The story follows Moiraine, a member of the shadowy and influential all-female organization called the ‘Aes Sedai’ as she embarks on a dangerous, world-spanning journey with five young men and women. Moiraine’s interested in these five because she believes one of them might be the reincarnation of an incredibly powerful individual, whom prophecies say will either save humanity or destroy it.”
