For humans to survive, sacrifices have to be made on The Walking Dead: World Beyond. In “Death and the Dead,” Jadis (Pollyanna McIntosh) pulls out all the stops to keep the Bennetts from escaping the research facility.

Iris (Aliyah Royale) and Hope (Alexa Mansour) went to the Civic Republic Research Facility to save their dad, Leo (Joe Holt). Now he’s the one leading the rescue. With the rest of the research team, Leo hands out remote control detonators for explosives set in the tunnels under the facility. They attached the explosives to empties walking around in the tunnels. On Leo’s signal, they blow up the tunnels with some of the CRM soldiers down there.
Jadis isn’t happy about losing soldiers. When Leo contacts her, she makes it known that he’s making a big mistake. Leo doesn’t care. He wants her to provide him with two CRM trucks or he will harm Major General Beale’s son, Mason (Will Meyers). At first Jadis doesn’t believe he has Mason, until Mason gets on the walkie, asking for help. This frustrates Jadis even more. She has no choice but to get him what he asks for.
Last week, Dennis (Maximilian Osinski) was shot while trying to defend Indira (Anna Khaja) and her people. Silas (Hal Cumpston) and Elton (Nicolas Cantu) take him back to the call station to pull out the bullet. They don’t have any anesthetic or antibiotics, but Elton is successful at extracting the bullet. Afterward, Dennis insists that Silas leave to help his friends.
INITIATE FINAL PLANS
Felix (Nico Tortorella) meets Lt. Frank Newton (Robert Palmer Watkins) at the trucks to make sure they don’t try to sabotage their escape. He tells Newton to move the trucks to the service entrance. And if Felix sees Newton again, he promises to kill him.
Everyone sit in Lyla’s old secret lab while they wait for Felix. They have Mason tied up near the test subjects. he asks what was going on there and Percy (Ted Sutherland) tells him to ask his father. Felix returns and Leo leads everyone to the trucks. The girls, Felix and Percy are staying behind for one last mission. They plan to set explosives in the cold storage where the chlorine gas is stored. Iris and Percy stay behind to watch Mason. While they wait, Percy tells Iris he wants to run away with her when this is all over.
Elton and Silas drive down a road, setting off fireworks. The noise is supposed to attract empties to the road, leading them to the research facility. Silas wants to make one more pitstop before heading to the rendezvous point.
Felix and Hope get to the cold storage and find that someone has raised the temperature. The frozen empties are walking around, causing some trouble for Felix and Hope, but nothing they can’t handle. When they get to the gas storage room, it’s empty.
ONE STEP AHEAD
Jadis tells Huck/Jennifer (Annet Mahendru) that she knew the Bennetts would try to destroy the gas. She moved it before they could get there. She has no intention of letting anyone escape the facility. One of the soldiers reports that a large column of dead are headed their way. That is something Jadis didn’t anticipate. Now she has to move what soldiers she has to secure the gates so they aren’t overrun. Jennifer tries to go with them, but Jadis insists she remains by her side.
Felix is anxious to get out of the facility and drop off Mason. Iris tries to blame Mason for moving the gas, but he has no idea what’s going on. Hope tells her to back off. They don’t have time for this and need to leave ASAP. On their way out, they hear empties walking around the facility.
Silas and Elton get inside the empty research facility. They don’t know exactly where the medical supplies are and split up to find the supply room. Silas runs into Webb (Jesse Gallegos) who pulls a gun on him. Webb thinks Silas is one of the insurgents they are looking for. He has orders to shoot on site. Silas explains that Dennis is hurt. He needs antibiotics. Webb doesn’t believe him and prepares to shoot Silas. Elton shows up and hits Webb in the head. He found the supply room. They load up on supplies, including insulin.
Webb wakes up and bangs on the door. He yells for Silas to open the door. They hear glass break and gunshots. The empties got inside the facility and killed Webb. Silas and Elton are trapped. Elton looks outside and finds a way out. Elton and Silas get inside of a large metal globe and roll it across the grounds, killing empties. When they get to the road, they get out of the globe and run.
LEVERAGE
Felix leads the group out of the facility and encounters Jadis and her team … including Jennifer. There’s only a few of them, but Jadis is confident she has the upper hand. She asks Felix to communicate with her on the walkie. She asks Felix to release Mason, but he won’t do that until they are safely out of range. Besides, they don’t trust Jadis or the CRM, especially after they killed thousands of people at Omaha and Campus Colony.
Jadis explains killing those people was merciful. The CRM projected the alliance would fail. The communities became too reliant on the CRM and would deplete their resources. This would have forced the communities to face famine, diseases and death. And the CRM wouldn’t be as strong if they kept sending supplies.
Jennifer assesses her situation. There are only a couple of soldiers nearby and lots of empties approaching. Jadis continues to talk about how the CRM is the only hope for humanity’s future. Felix and the girls don’t buy it. The empties get too close, forcing Felix to turn and shoot. Jadis takes the opportunity to open fire on them. Mason headbutts Percy and runs away. Percy chases after him. Jennifer shoots the two soldiers behind her and turns her gun on Jadis.
LOSING A FRIEND
There’s lots of gunfire as Felix and Iris take out the few soldiers surrounding them. When the shooting stops, Iris sees the Percy isn’t moving. Iris drops her gun and runs to him. She sees a single gunshot in the back of Percy’s head. Hope picks up the gun and walks to stand in front of Mason. She blames him and he says it’s their fault for turning on the CRM. Hope realizes that Mason is fully with the CRM and points the gun at him.
Felix jumps into one of the trucks and watches the girls. Iris tries to talk Hope out of killing Mason because it will affect her all over again. Hope has flashes of killing Elton’s mom. Iris pushes Hope’s arm down, forcing her not to hurt Mason. Felix drives up and the girls hop in. Iris lingers a little, looking at Percy’s body. Jennifer yells at her to get in the car while she holds her gun on Jadis.
Jadis says Elizabeth (Julia Ormond) was right about Jennifer. She made the wrong choice. She offers Jennifer a 10 minute head start before she kills her. Mason starts yelling for help as the empties close in on him. Jadis runs to help him, giving Jennifer an opportunity to jump in a Jeep and drive away.
Jadis calls Major General Beale and tells him to move up the timeline on Portland. She promises to get the scientists back and bring the Bennetts to justice. So far, her only regret is that she wasn’t brought in sooner to fix the problem.
DREAMS CRUSHED
Felix, Iris and Hope arrive at the rendezvous point, but no one is there. Felix calls Leo on the radio, but he’s not answering. When he finally answers, he says the CRM set out spikes in the road. One of the trucks has a flat tire. They loaded as many people as they could into the other truck and sent them to the underground mall where Indira and Will (Jelani Alladin) are waiting. The CRM is likely on their way, so Felix says he will go help them.
Jennifer drives to the call station and finds Dennis asleep on the couch. He looks at her and smiles. He tells her that he got too friendly with a bullet. After she makes sure he’s okay, Jennifer goes outside to cry.
Elton and Silas find Hope and Iris. It’s the first time Hope has seen Elton since she told him about how his mom died. Silas asks about Percy and Iris starts crying. Hope says the CRM won. They are going to destroy Portland and there’s nothing they can do about it. Elton, Silas and Hope hug Iris while she cries.
Jennifer calls out on the radio for anyone in range. Hope answers. Jennifer asks if she still has the C4 explosives. She found the storage containers full of the chlorine gas.
