When The Walking Dead returns on Sunday night, it will be a different show. For starters, Rick Grimes (Andrew Lincoln) is gone. And the show is time jumping again, six years into the future. That also means a new group of faces, including Judith Grimes.
The time jump actually happened at the end of Rick’s final episode. The fans got to see Judith save a group of survivors. She has to be about 10 years old and she’s pretty good with a gun. Cailey Fleming takes over the role of Judith and she’s quite a little lady. With Shane Walsh for a father, you can expect Judith to be very vocal. And seeing as how she is being raised by Michonne (Danai Gurira), Judith will live up to her nickname, “little a** kicker.”
Keeping Up With The Lintzs
Another child of the apocalypse, Henry, the adopted son of Carol (Melissa McBride) and Ezekiel (Khary Peyton) has also grown. For the past two season, Henry has been portrayed by Macsen Lintz, the younger brother of Madison Lintz who played Carol’s daughter Sophia in season one and two. I really love that TWD is keeping the Lintz family in business. Macsen and Madison’s brother Matt Lintz will now portray Henry.
What’s interesting about this development is that Henry will be about the same age as Carl Grimes is in the comics. And if you’re a comic book reader, you know Carl goes through some interesting experiences when the Whisperers show up. I’m not saying the Henry is replacing Carl. But it’s interesting that the characters are the same age as the incoming Lydia, played by Cassady McClincy.
Whisperers Are Coming
In the comics, Lydia is the daughter of the Whisperer leader Alpha, played by Samantha Morton. If the television show stays true to the comics, then we will be seeing a lot more of Henry. But if they stray, there is a possibility that Judith will befriend Lydia. Seeing as how this story has always been about the Grimes family, my money is on Judith. Not bad for a baby who died in her mother’s arms in the comics.
The group of survivors that Judith saved will also be around for a little while. They are Magna (Nadia Hilker), Luke (Dan Fogler), Connie (Lauren Ridloff), Yamiko (Eleanor Matsuura), and Kelly (Angel Theory). And it appears that Michonne is not to happy about their arrival. Michonne has hardened since Rick’s disappearance. We will see on Sunday if there is anything else that contributes to Michonne’s strict leadership.
As for who is not coming back, well, for sure Rick and Maggie Rhee (Lauren Cohan). The show implied that Maggie may join Georgie (Jayne Atkinson) in her quest to rebuild the world. And we know that Cohan is currently filming her new show Whiskey Cavalier. If her new show gets picked up for a second season, we may never see Maggie and Hershel Rhee again. And we know that Rick is alive, but we don’t know where he is or why it’s taking him so long to get back to his family. Hopefully that will be resolved soon.
So many changes in such a short time. There are also rumors of a Richonne child making it’s debut on Sunday. Hmmmm…. The story continues and danger is still everywhere. Watch the trailer below for more changes to come on The Walking Dead.
The Walking Dead airs on Sunday nights on AMC.
