Beta leads his horde on The Walking Dead

It’s been a long wait for the season 10 finale of The Walking Dead. The footage had been filmed, all that was left was to edit it and put in some effects. We’ve been waiting just over five months for the finale, and it’s worth the wait. AMC released the first photos from the season finale that reveal a little bit about how Daryl (Norman Reedus) and company deal with the Whispers. Warning: there are mild spoilers ahead.

This season of The Walking Dead was far cry better than the show has been in the past few years. A lot of that is attributed to showrunner Angela King and her writing team. With that being said, the finale is still predictable. It’s a fair bet to say that Beta (Ryan Hurst) and his Whisperer army will be defeated. The finale will tie up loose ends and give Team Family a clean slate … for the most part … going into season 11.

RECAP

I highly suggest re-watching the last couple of episodes of The Walking Dead season 10 before viewing the season finale, just to get the full effect. If you don’t have time to re-watch, here’s a quick review of the things that you need to know going into the season 10 finale. The Whisperers are closing in on Team Family. Team Family is preparing to defend the tower against not only the Whisperers but the horde of walkers with them. Aaron (Ross Marquand) and Alden (Callan McAuliffe) are in the woods outside of the tower surrounded by Whisperers. Eugene (Josh McDermitt), Ezekiel (Khary Peyton), Yumiko (Eleanor Matsuura) and newcomer Juanita Sanchez, aka Princess (Paola Lazaro), are on their way to West Virginia to meet up with Stephanie and her group of people.

REVIEW

First of all, unless you’ve been living under a rock, then you probably saw the first few minutes of The Walking Dead season 10 finale. You know that Daryl, Carol (Melissa McBride), Judith (Cailey Fleming) and Kelly (Angel Theory) are also outside of the tower and quickly make it back before the walkers reach their door. The new photos for the season 10 finale show Daryl and Carol going back out, which is really no surprise. Those two will risk everything to keep everyone safe. Only this time they have a group with them that includes Jerry (Cooper Andrews), Kelly and others. Luke (Dan Fogler) was working on something electrical in episode 15. This group are the chosen ones to make Luke’s project work. So the real questions are: What is the project? And will they succeed?

We also see the return of Maggie Rhee (Lauren Cohan), which leads us to believe she will have a hand in the defeat of the Whisperers. It is good to see Maggie back, but there’s so much baggage from previous seasons that will need to be addressed before everything will be OK, especially with Negan (Jeffrey Dean Morgan). His bromance with Daryl could be a sore spot for Maggie.

Eugene and his group will make it to their rendezvous point, but won’t be prepared for what they find. Their storyline is leading the show into the Commonwealth. If you know what that is, then you know what to expect. And the only question on everyone’s mind … for like the entire second half of the season … is Connie (Lauren Ridloff) still alive? Let’s just say Kang answers all questions.

In all, The Walking Dead season finale is intense, but very quiet. Team Family’s innovation skills really help their cause. It’s not a war, though, but more like a covert operation to deal with the Whisperers. In my opinion, definitely worth the wait.
