There has been a lot of The Walking Dead news this week, including the casting of lovable muggle Dan Fogler for season nine. Fogler confirmed today with this post on Instagram, hinting that his character is named after his favorite Jedi.

This past week, TWD confirmed the appearance of a new group when they cast Lauren Ridloff as Connie. She is one of six people in a group led by a woman named Magna. Among that group is a man named Luke…as in Luke Skywalker. Get it?!  Anyway, several sites reported Eleanor Matsuura cast as Yamiko, but nothing has surfaced about who will play Magna. The group comes upon Rick Grimes (Andrew Lincoln) and company after the time jump in the comic books.

Fogler is best known for his role in Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them. He plays the non-magical Jacob Kowalski, a simple baker who gets caught up in a secret magical world, only to have his memories erased. He will reprise the role in the upcoming Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes of Grindelwald in November.

The Walking Dead SDCC panel is on Friday and the only thing fans can expect is the season nine trailer.  I’m sure as the summer dwindles down, we will hear more casting news and maybe some clarification about those rumors.

The Walking Dead returns to AMC in October.
