The Walking Dead season nine is currently in production and more details are emerging weekly. The latest news coming out of the TWD camp is the casting of two strong female characters.

Tony Award nominee Lauren Ridloff has been cast as Connie. Connie is a character from the comics that shows up in issue #127. In the comic book, Connie is part of a group of survivors from Washington D.C., led by a woman named Magna. Magna and her group are discovered by Jesus (Tom Payne) and he takes them to Alexandria to become a part of their community.

Connie is described as, “a seasoned survivor deft at using her senses to read people, situations, and trouble.” She should be an interesting character to watch because Ridloff, the actress is deaf.  Although Connie is not deaf in the comic, the change in the character will make her interesting to watch.

Yumiko, another member of Magna’s group is rumored to be making an appearance as well. Yumiko’s first appearance is also in issue #127. In the comics, Yumiko is Magna’s girlfriend and things get a little rough when the group questions Rick’s leadership. According to comicbook.com, Eleanor Matsuura will take on the role.  Matsuura’s most recent role was on AMC’s Into the Badlands as Baron Chau.

Other members of this group include the leader, Magna, Ken, Kelly, and Luke. As TWD fans know, the television series does not always follow the comic book. So we may not see all of these characters cast for the show, but we will definitely see Magna in season nine.

The Walking Dead will debut the season nine trailer later this week at San Diego Comic Con. Hopefully we’ll get a glimpse of these two characters and much more.

The Walking Dead returns to AMC in October.
