Things have been quiet for a while with news on The Vampire Chronicles TV series. Last we heard, they had lost their showrunner but were finding a home at Hulu. Well we have exciting news from author and executive producer Anne Rice! The series has found a new showrunner in Dee Johnson and the praise is high. Rice took to social media to make the announcement.
Sharing an image on her Instagram account, Rice first apologized for the silence but there was good news to follow. “Today, I’m thrilled to tell you that after an exhaustive search, we’ve joined forces with the perfect showrunner, a woman of vast experience and impeccable professionalism who brings with her a deep respect for the material.” Rice continued. “In our first meetings with Dee, she spoke with moving eloquence and clarity about the characters and relationships that define this series, their outsider perspectives and their moral dilemmas – all the elements that make The Vampire Chronicles a probing exploration of cosmic and spiritual questions perfectly suited for adaptation in the era of peak T.V.”
Rice had also commented in Johnson’s championing “the representation of minority characters, marrying diversity to smart and compelling drama”. It sounds like the perfect match! Johnson has worked on titans of television with ER, Melrose Place, Commander in Chief, Southland, and The Good Wife. So she was not kidding when she said the new showrunner has vast experience. While there’s no further details with casting or release dates, it’s great to know the show is in good hands.
