The secrets of the rich are about to become public knowledge in the official teaser for The Undoing. Based on the novel You Should Have Known by Jean Hanff Korelitz, this thrilling HBO limited series stars Nicole Kidman and Hugh Grant as the opulent and influential Frasers. Here’s the official synopsis from The Undoing press release:
The limited series follows Grace (Kidman) and Jonathan Fraser (Grant), who are living the onlylives they ever wanted for themselves. Overnight, a chasm opens in their lives: a violent deathand a chain of terrible revelations. Left behind in the wake of a spreading and very publicdisaster and horrified by the ways in which she has failed to heed her own advice, Grace mustdismantle one life and create another for her child and her family.
Now, the one-minute teaser doesn’t reveal much beyond a slew of fast-paced shots. Noma Dumezweni‘s character Haley Fitzgerald provides the sole narration in said teaser. She somberly reveals that the rich believe their status can protect their secrets. But, inevitably, their dirty laundry is aired despite their attempts at the contrary. We see plenty of shots of Kidman, a horde of press berating her with questions, and a brief glimpse of Donald Sutherland. Additionally, we see Grant looking pensive, which appears to be his modus operandi these days. There’s a few shots of sobbing people and a few notes from an out of tune violin. Overall, this trailer manages to evoke thrills without giving anything away.
Admittedly, I’ve never read Hanff-Korelitz’s book. However, this teaser is enough to reel me into the world of The Undoing. I wholeheartedly believe that trailers should make it an objective to reveal as little plot as possible. Otherwise, why would viewers want to invest in your entity if they garnered the whole story from a one-minute teaser?

The series is the brainchild of David E. Kelley, with all six installments directed by Susanne Bier. You can tune in to The Undoing on Sunday, October 25th at 9pm on HBO and HBO Max.
