The Umbrella Academy trailer is here.  The Dark Horse comic book from Gerard Way and Gabriel Bá is coming to life on our small screens and it looks cool.  We get an introduction to each of the surviving numbered family members and the tone of the upcoming Netflix series.

The end of the world is coming and the gifted and powerful children of The Umbrella Academy have to come together to find the cause of their father’s death, get over their dysfunction and save the world.  No big deal.  The trailer gives us a short glimpse of the academy in its heyday, dance moves, danger, fire, creepy masks and it’s all set to Tiffany’s I Think We’re Alone Now.  Pretty awesome.

5 (Aiden Gallagher) and 7 (Ellen Page) are the only ones we hear from in the trailer.  5 says, “The world ends in 8 days…I don’t know how to stop it” and 7 replies “I’ll put on a pot of coffee.”  Ellen Page is appropriately strange as the introverted 7.

Gallagher and Page are joined by Mary J. Blige, Cameron Britton, Tom Hopper, David Castañeda, Emmy Raver-Lampman, Robert Sheehan, Colm Feore, Adam Godley, John Magaro, Ashley Madekwe, and Kate Walsh

A dysfunctional family of superheroes comes together to solve the mystery of their father’s death, the threat of the apocalypse and more. Adapted from the comic created by Gerard Way and Gabriel Bá.

The Umbrella Academy will start streaming on Netflix on February 15, 2019.
