Highlights
- Apple TV+ and Lionsgate Studios plan to premiere their new Seth Rogen half-hour comedy The Studio at SXSW.
- Ahead of the highly anticipated panel, they’ve released a new full-length trailer.
- The new trailer illustrates the stress Seth Rogen’s Matt Remick faces as he takes over legacy studio Continental Studio in an increasingly commercial movie industry.

The Studio
As described on the Apple TV+ site, “In The Studio, Seth Rogen stars as Matt Remick, the newly appointed head of embattled Continental Studios. As movies struggle to stay alive and relevant, Matt and his core team of infighting executives battle their own insecurities as they wrangle narcissistic artists and craven corporate overlords in the ever-elusive pursuit of making great films.
With their power suits masking their neverending sense of panic, every party, set visit, casting decision, marketing meeting, and award show presents them with an opportunity for glittering success or career-ending catastrophe. As someone who eats, sleeps, and breathes movies, it’s the job Matt’s been pursuing his whole life, and it may very well destroy him.”

Back in November 2024, Apple TV+ dropped a teaser and set of first-look images for The Studio. The number of high-profile, recognizable celebrities and film industry bigwigs set to appear is astounding. From Martin Scorsese to Anthony Mackie, Kathryn Hahn to Olivia Wilde, it’s a head-spinning parade of major movie players.
The New Trailer
The full-length trailer delves more into the pressures on Rogen’s Remick as he realizes how the business has become the demise of the art. Catherine O’Hara’s Patty Leigh appears to be Remick’s guru-mentor. In the trailer, she reminds him the job is a “meat grinder.” However, she also encourages him to pursue his dream of making a good movie because it’ll be good forever.

But the road to good film-making never did run smooth. Remick is determined to dovetail the studio’s prestige films with box-office success. It seems like a laughably naive approach. He’s surrounded by jaded naysayers, content to churn out the same cookie-cutter cash cows over and over again. The modern landscape is a minefield of cancel culture and political correctness. How can one man steer a studio through this turbulent sea without sinking?
Profits Over Poetry
A product of the crowd-pleasing Seth Rogen-Evan Goldberg partnership, expect the series to deliver a healthy dose of humor alongside its wry observations of this cutthroat business. With the old guard in place, can Remick bring in a glimmer of optimism and artistry? In an environment of constantly combatting egos, insidious neuroses and, let’s not forget, greed, can a dreamer succeed? When formulaic scripts pay the bills, is there room for innovation?
The Studio premieres on March 26 on Apple TV+ with its first two episodes. The rest of the 10 episodes will drop every Wednesday until May 21.
